Why? The Intel Integrated 3000 graphics outperform the current Nividia GeForce 320M's found in the current MacBook Airs and outgoing pre-gen MacBook Pro's. So why is an improvement sad?
God why don't people research, unless apple decides to not skip directly to ivy bridge, you will NOT get the same intel sb igp as the mbp 13, instead you will get one that's at least 20-30% slower. Something's had to give to get the 35w tdp on the sb mbp cpus down to the 25w/17w level.

Photokina is a photo convention. Not a computer convention.
the 17" MBP was released at a Media event... why not an update at a Photo event...
This is Apple.. they dont follow rules

Long on Apple, Microsoft and Google. These are the class leaders. Microsoft is entrenched and executes well in the enterprise space. Their consumer products are good, but not great. While they suffer from too much breadth and not enough deep focus, they have the will to invest for the long term and that is important. Google can be a game changer when they go after a space. Apple executes incredibly well in the consumer space. All good here.

I think the iPhone is going to beat out G5 powerbooks for the most annoying front page rumor.
You are sooo right!!
of course if apple keeps us going with the merom laptops or holds out too long on blu-ray. those will come up close also.

Why does Apple think it's okay to continually alienate and turn away developers?? Why do fanboys continue to excuse such incidences? Why aren't people SICK of this kind of behavior from Apple?

The sources pointed out that the USB 3.0 technology currently seems like it will become a transitional product with Thunderbolt to become the finalized next-generation transmission technology.http://www.digitimes.com/NewsShow/NewsSearch.asp?DocID=PD000000000000000000000000019434&query=APPLE

time to do research?
if you are not doing anything wrong, what is there to worry about?
I totally agree. We should just let any corporation or government track anything we do. If they want to turn our phones into constant listening devices, why would anyone oppose that, other than those who are doing wrong....
Sheeple.

With all the programming and money toward the Sony owned rights, etc., the tech isn't worth it in a computer except to a small percentage.
I agree. Blu-ray is nice, but on a computer, even a 27" iMac, it's not reaching it's full potential, IMO. Besides, you can always input your PS3 to your iMac if necessary.
You are also stuck in current times. Physical media will be dead by then, everything is going to be cloud based, there will be no such thing as a physical copy of movies any more :)
What kind of media do you expect that "cloud" to store data with? Your statement delves into the realm of privacy concern.

My only problem is there doesn't seem to be an education discount right now on the new iPods. Just 249 and 349.
I'm guessing this will change once the current edu promotion is over...

Buy a 2nd and 3rd PrePaid phone & leave the iPhone off until you want to use it.
If you are doing sensitive or sneaky business, you already know about these things.
Anything that is always on and transmitting wirelessly is trackable and now we know it is trackable in more ways with data going to BOTH the iPhone and the computer you sync with

The logo on the center of the record is an apple sliced in half. Again, it looks nothing like Apple's logo.
You're right. Apple doesn't use an Apple for their logo.

Really? RA used Apple Dev tools and the App Store folks put up a fight for 3 months. RA didn't break any rules and Apple doesn't have a cohesive process. RA walked away over Apple's policy conflicts, and people are defending Apple. Seriously, this behavior is still continuing at Apple, and it needs to change.
My head hurts, I'm going to go lay down...

I'm not going to wade through all of the posts here and delete another few dozen off-topic ones, but it's clear that this thread is incapable of staying on-topic, which is a requirement in the news forums, and so it's being closed.

Make it thinner and lighter like the Macbook Air and I'd be sold. It'll basically be a more powerful and more functional Macbook Air. I'd take it!

Didn't Steve say in his keynote how long it would be until Europe got movies? I could have sworn it was October.
I think he just said "we hope to take this international in 2007" meaning tough **** you will have to wait most probably end of 2007.

In the Windows world, it would be a Program Store. Look at any Windows computer and there's nothing called an application or an app. MS claims to have, like 95% of the desktop market. How would the gazillion Windows users out there even know what an "app" was? They've had zero exposure to it, it's a totally foreign term. Wait a minute, it's an Apple term that is coming into common usage and now MS might have to change their language to get rid of the goofy term "program", conceding defeat, so its usage must be stopped or curtailed. That's what this is really about.
As others have pointed out (repeatedly), Windows does actually refer to what you call 'Programs' as applications. For example, right click on a 'program' shortcut. On the short-cut, what does it say for the "target type?"
Since you seem to have trouble reading so-far, I'll give you a hint: it says "Application."
It's been this way since <at least> Windows XP.
Edit: Actually, I just looked at some really old KB articles from Microsoft, MS-Dos 'programs' were also referred to as "applications."

How about an iPod dock but with an airport express built-in. That way you could either stream video off of your iPod or your Mac. This is important since any device they introduce will have to be both Mac and PC compliant and there is no version of front row currently available for Windows.

I was under the understanding that the reason that the current 320M has been so impressive considering the aging Duel Core CPU was the increased speed of data transfer from the SSD meaning a large increase in efficiency in both the CPU and the GPU.
So surely it stands to reason that if the intergrated GPU of Sandy Bridge is only slightly less powerful than the current 320M but will be partnered with the SSD and a MASSIVELY more powerful CPU then the sandy bridge MBA will be at least as powerful in graphics terms than the currant MBA.
Am I just being stupid thinking that?
320M has OpenCL. Intel does not have OpenCL. All Intel graphics are thus bad.

I don't usually speculate, but I find it interesting "Showtime" is capitalized. Could the downloads be part of some partnership with the cable channel? Just wild speculation on my part.
-p-
Showtime is owned by Viacom, who also owns the movie channel and a cable company.

Something that has been mentioned a few times here and there that I would like clarifying. I will be purchasing (as part of a group order) an MPB this Saturday. When I go to the apple website, for glossy, it says 5-7 days. If I ordered the MBP, and somehow managed to hold onto it without tearing it open until the 25th, could I really send it in, unopened, for an updated MBP not questions asked?
As long as it's not a BTO, you should be able to return the MBP within the 14 day grace period. There is a restocking fee, but several people have stated that if you ask nicely (maybe bake some cookies for them?) they'll waive the restocking fee.
BTO systems cannot be returned unless they're DOA.
