    1. Play doesn't mean it needs to be on max settings and max resolution, so I am correct the last 2 generation can run crisis and crisis 2 at minimum settings
at about a 1080p resolution, and minimum settings for crisis is still pretty amazing.

    2. When you say "There is No Mac that can max crysis" .... are you excluding the 5870 mac pro?!

    3. You are very similar to me.... however instead oh having a Mac and a Gaming PC rig, I have a gaming PC that is hackintoshed.

Let's agree to disagree about min settings being viable play;)

On your 5870 mention (which was a good card)...it's not going to allow max settings on that fancy cinema display (which I consider to be the staple of many pro owners...at least the ones I know personally). To me, a game should be played at native res, settings aside.

Not to distract from the original issue...Crysis is still a very relevant and great benchmark for current system test. BUT, last time I checked...this isn't a dictatorship:) stay well, glad to hear theres some hackintosh gamers out there in MR

Would be great to have dual out on 11" MBA too. This way I could have dual displays at my remote office.

    Blame Thunderbolt.

Your mother approved of you slamming on the brakes and causing a car that potentially had a baby on board to swerve at a high speed? All because the car was blocking you from arriving at your destination a few minutes faster?

    Are you ****ing kidding me?

I don't like people who drive slow in the passing lane either, but I would NEVER put people's lives in danger just to save a few minutes on my drive. Think about that.

You probably thought you'd post your story and get a few laughs. Well, after reading your OP and subsequent posts, look who turned out to be the joke (it's you, BTW).

Oh, and change your ****ing avatar.

    It's coming soon!
Thinking of the event last Tuesday, it was interesting that Steve finished the Keynote with,
On your desktop, in your car, in your pocket in your home theater....
He was pointing out where Apple products are - so why not your phone.
Jobs had a lot of events last year in the final quarter. I can see him doing another one soon.
(I know there is one coming up next week, but my bet on one in Oct. for the iPhone!)

Because they are NO LONGER USING THE API! They give the rights to use the API to call and display the image. It doesn't give them the right to take that image and use it for something else outside of the context it was meant to be used.

Let me quote Gruber on this very issue:

"Point 1 is simply wrong; the Airfoil Speakers Touch iPhone app does not contain any of these images. It contains no pictures of Apple computers. It contains no icons of Apple applications. It displays these images after they are sent across the network by Airfoil for Mac. Airfoil for Mac reads these images using public official Mac OS X APIs. I.e. Airfoil Speakers Touch can only show a picture of the Mac it is connected to because the image is sent from the Mac it is connected to."

    Quit apologizing for Apple.

Interesting tidbit I thought I'd share:

My gf's dad is in the military and he was asking about Macbooks at AAFES because my gf has been saving up to buy one. The salesman there said that they were out of stock at the moment, but that they could order one and it would ship out either the 12th or 15th of September.

    Sounds promising!! :)

    Hurmph...

Still can't get excited about any of the paid video content on iTMS myself...

I'm still hoping to see 540p files that iTunes "automagically" resizes for proper DVD burning and iPod use, while using the 540p version for users with HDTVs attached to their Macs... Have the video DRM work more like the audio "FairPlay" DRM...

Until then, I'll be happy to download the free episodes that sometimes are offered.. But I'm waiting to pay until Apple provides me with the quality of some of my favorite *FREE* video podcasts.. (MacBreak, TWiT video, DL.TV, CommandN, TikiBar, etc)

What I'd rather see announced, is Core 2 updates to the iMac and and MBP.

Would love to see a mini tower/Cube neo/Mac mini Extreme... Core 2, 4 ram slots, one or two (for SLI/Crossfire) open PCIe slot(s), 3.5" SATA HD.... sigh...

I suspect we'll get ourselves all twisted 'bout this, tune in only to see iPod HiFi v 2.0 instead..

    Shrug.

    Just my $0.02US

Glad, hoping for a redesign, but probably unlikely, also would be great to see the yellow tint issue resolved..

Yea I don't think I redesign is likely, Apple likes the current one still, and it is pretty nice IMO

I think this is enough to show that Microsoft is unequivocally correct. The term has been in use for much longer than Apple's launching of the store and it has been ubiquitous in the computer industry for a long time.

The way to distinguish (if it needs to be done) between app stores is by saying the name of the app store before hand, ie the Apple App Store, the Amazon App Store, or the Microsoft App Store.

Apple did not TM the term APP they TM APP STORE.
Its not like apple is saying they cannot call their applications apps.
They are saying they cannot call their app store the app store.

Like I said, MS should just call is the WinApp Store, problem solved.

Because US cell phone carriers suck. :/

Don't forget our lovely service providers like hmmmm AT&T. They've gotta be the worst company of all companies. Their customer service means putting people on hold for 2-3 hours.

Anyway, Im looking forward to the Apple phone. My $50 gophone just isnt cutting it anymore.

But I am pretty sure the newest developer tools can cope with that, considering that multicore chips are a rather new thing in the mainstream market...

Try the Processor Preferences app contained in the Apple CHUD tools, for instance...
Please explain - I have no idea what "that" is....
    ---

Regardless of the tool, however, it is usually much better to let the OS dynamically schedule threads across the cores. Unless the programmer has some reason to try to control this, the alternative is some resources (CPUs) being overcommitted, while other CPUs are idle.

It doesn't matter who has the better tools - it's usually better to let the OS decide microsecond by microsecond how best to schedule the CPUs, than to have the developer make those decisions at edit time.

I've used the SetProcessAffinityMask APIs fairly often, but it's always been for specific test or benchmark situations. I have a hard time thinking of a situation where a general application would want to statically control the scheduler - it's just "bad think" to even try. (Except for those weird-a$$ NUMA Opterons - you can be really scr3wed if you have to go through HyperTransport to get to memory. I check NUMA topology, and use affinity to keep the AMD architecture from killing me.)

Yeah it should be, there's no hard drive to make noise and unless you keep it on a stove or do insanely heavy processing you shouldn't hear the fan either.

Sandy Bridge should also run more efficiently than the C2D. That will not only extend baterry life, but it will also keep the normal operation temperatures down.

My only worry is how much I will notice the loss GPU compare to the 320M.

'app store' means simply 'store at which apps are offered for sale,'

Go back five years. I tell you "Someone told me that I should use iMovie to edit the movies that I made with my video camera. Where can I buy it"? You say: "You should go to an app store". I say "What on earth is an app store?"

No, that wouldn't have happened. You would have said "You should go to a computer store". "You might try a games store, they might have it". You would never have said "You should go to an app store".

Honestly, if it made any sense whatsoever then Apple wouldn't have killed it. Do the math.

If it didn't make sense Apple wouldn't have sold the 24" in the first place. Do the math.

You're living in the past, kid.

I can't believe you're actually sounding snobby about an iMac screen size. Wow.

This, if it and Ivy Bridge, lower SSD prices/larger capacities come to fruition solidify my decision to stay with my 2010 and wait for the 2012 refresh.

Samsung couldn't pull out on any existing deals, otherwise they'd be in breach of contract.

So what? They're already getting sued by Apple, so what's another lawsuit? Point is, contract breach or not, Samsung could cripple Apple's whole ecosystem within days by halting all processor shipments. Apple makes the vast majority on iDevices and this would kill Apple's whole economic model. And this doesn't even account for Samsungs components that go into their Macs. As a result, Apple would have no hardware to sell. They would dip into their treasure chest. It could be devastating to Apple.

Curious that everyone is clamoring for a thunderbolt-enabled machine, but there isn't a single thunderbolt drive available on the market.

I guess some people just need to feel like they have new stuff even if it's totally pointless.

Sandy Bridge its way more faster, and having the thunderbolt available will be a matter of time for external HDD or cases. Either way the thunderbolt can be used for a LCD so I really don't see your point.
