And more importantly, the very fact that even the Yakuza operate off a very strict honor code means American levels of criminal violence are just unheard of in Japan. And you wonder why--and this is true!--that Japanese sometimes call teenage delinquents "Yankees" (I kid you not!).
The Yakuza were first in and supplied large amounts of aid to the worst affected areas.

Glad Strauss made a good century today, it's the first time he's actually played well in these tests. Anyway, no college tomorrow, so I've got my whole day sussed.
::20ROGERSC::
apart, of course, from the century at Old Trafford.

You got that right. If he fails, I think we are going to hear Italian fans all over the world just go nuts...
If he wins, 12.21.2012 won't match what happens in Italy :)

I had no idea how cricket was played until this past week while in India. It seems that cricket is quite popular there, and was one of the few sports available in English on the tele, so I watched it. After a little while I was able to figure out the basics - overs, wickets, bowlers, etc. - as wells as how the scoring works.
What I find amazing is how long the matches (tests?) last. There was a news story about a growing trend - "3 hour cricket". Sounds good to me!
Some of the one-day matches and 20:20 events this year have been electrifying and there's more one-dayers to come this winter, plus several more tests.
Bit sad it's all over with the Ashes in a way, the thought of going back to look at football news turns my stomach a bit.
However, it was a great series, and I think there's proof on here that it's made a hell of a lot more people simply aware of how good it can be, me included! Never seen a set of matches even close to that before.
By the way, who was majorly surprised with the trophy?!

Those people who have tattoos all over their body, like enigma, the cat guy, the leopard guy and the lizard guy are insane. They are fully disfiguring their bodies. They think they are animals, except for enigma who thinks it is "art", which IMO is less crazy but still incredibly weird. His puzzle pieces are all different colors and are all patchy.

Just because a couple of geeks running MacRumours think this is front page worthy doesn't mean it is.
This just in, a game came out for Mac!
It's more embarrassing to the OS then anything.

I agree that culture plays a part as well.
But seeing as your from Norway, who is also on the good end of that chart, what are your thoughts on the possibility of mass looting there I wonder?
Most people wouldn't steal food here, but if violent hoarding can be considered 'looting', then I would say the possibility is high under similar circumstances. By 'violent hoarding' I mean disrespecting one-per-customer policies and cutting in lines whilst armed with a shotgun. People here are easily freaked out by the crisis-loving media (don't get me started about the swine flu in 2009), and we have very liberal laws on firearms compared to the rest of Europe.

wow, insane that they were finally charged 3 months after being arrested...
I have 2 friends in Venezuela that have been arrested, one for for 8 years prior the being charged to 30 years ON TOP of the 8 years he already has, and another one for 3 years already without a trial yet. Both politically related against Hugo Chavez.

I think, at least right now, carbon fibre would be prohibitively expensive.
Why? Have you ever bought any? The fabric is about $30 per yard. YOu have to cut it and stack it and the epoxy is about $100 per gallon. You can build simple carbon/epoxy parts using simple hand tools but the process is very, very labor intensive. It takes most of an afternoon to make one part. The advances are in automation. Once you can automat and get the labor costs down the material is not expensive because you use so little of it.

This isn't really all that shocking to be honest. The costs of new tech are always higher at first, but when a big player finally pushes it, the prices drop dramatically.

It's for a great cause. Putting CPU/GPU cycles to good use. The whole points thing makes it kinda competitive and lures people in. lol.
Watch out for that motherboard. My 950 ran fine OC'd but committed suicide with the beastie 970.
i agree.
thanks, i will. i just have a 930 in it. and right now it's not OC'd that much

I'm certain that there will be an iPhone in June, why wouldn't there be...
Isn't iOS 5 going to be optimised for the new iPhone so that it can take advantage of the new hardware?

From the description of a touchpad I'm seeing this as a full size tactile sensitive pad which can be configured by the overlay (using a unique ID) and a driver extension to accept the overlays input in whichever way is best suited to relay that input. Example: a keyboard overlay is just a matrix of buttons that when pressed would then press the pad and relay the key input. A drawing tablet overlay would relay input from it's entire surface like a Wacom. A mixing board would be able to use the sliders position of contact with the pad relative to preprogrammed x/y coords on the pad to relay it's input... even complex motions such as a knob tuner could be relayed via a swivel brush that would stroke the pad underneath in a preset arc that could be interpreted as correct input for a tuner, going through multiple 360 degree rotations.
This interface concept has a lot of possibilities... we'll see some of them, it's just too good of an idea.

This x 100.
People are really stupid, sometimes.
yeah I suppose this also confirms that there will be no iPhone 5 in 2011. Or OS X Lion. Or any substantially improved Macs. Or any great shakes in the iPod lineup...
Get real. Steve said that because it needed to be said. The rumors of a Sept iPad 3 were swirling and Apple didn't want to risk sales being impacted.
I'm not saying that there WILL be an iPad 3 in 2011... but I'm saying that his statement has no relevance to that argument. I think that slide would still have been there even if Steve was inwardly smiling thinking "untill the iPad 3 in September... *evil grin*"
See above comment as it applies to you. Not sure if you can read this with your tinfoil hat falling off of your head and covering your eyes, though.
