Am Encoding H.264 Baseline Profile 640x480 To Test Old 5G Compatability. Takes much longer. Will report success or failure when it's done in another 35 minutes - about 3:15pm Pacific.
iPod 1.2 update software made no mention of this newer H.264 maximum dimension feature. If it works it means a whole new paradigm for Video iPods. The 320x240 pixel restriction for H.264 to date made it a highly unattractive codec to use. Now it's a whole new ballgame if it works. HDTV May be encoded 640x360 max in H.264 for a much better encode. Crossing my fingers this will work. Please pray with me now. ;)

I do not think that is the plan. I believe the service will allow you to download your songs as well. It just gives you the option to go to the cloud if / when needed.
Exactly how I see it. An easy way to get at your media from devices like an iPhone or iPad when you're away from your main computer... Stream it, or download and keep local.

Been wanting this for a while. I have a windows PC just doing nothing, if I can turn it into an Airport Express like device, can have music going throughout the house.
You already can, it's called Home Sharing (http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3819), which is also available on your iDevice using iOS 4.3 and later.
There are a number of AirPlay apps in the App Store that allow an iDevice to be recognized as an Apple TV, as mentioned, AirView (http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/airview/id412370918?mt=8) is one of those particular apps -- and it even offers streaming from one iDevice to another, as one of the other devices is a virtual Apple TV.
Why is it that much more difficult to create an app that receives audio only AirPlay? I don't know -- but I'm not a veteran iOS app developer.
I think, with iOS now capable of being in the Home Sharing loop the demand for audio only streaming to iDevices using AirPlay -- instead of some third-party solution -- is extremely low.

i've been patiently waiting for the MBP to be updated before i ordered but wanted to jump on the iPod deal as well which ends the 16th
if one was to place an order and then these are announced the following week, would Apple upgrade you to the comparable machine?
If the new one is announced before your order ships, it will be automatically upgraded. Otherwise, you should return the unopened product within 2 weeks of purchase for a free upgrade.

Samsung is a blatantly copycat right now, whereas Apple has managed to piece together promising parts from other companies to create what they call the iPhone. Makes it hard to root for any side, oh well... ;)

Most of the complaints, including this one, are about when Apple rejects an app for something that is NOT in the developer's guide.
Actually, "this complaint" is about something that is in the developer's guide. The use of Apple icons. There have been lots of apps that have been rejected over it because of the use of icons to similar to other iPhone system icons, or Apple OS icons.

No thanks. I loathe the candybar design. I have a Treo which I keep in an aluminum case. I did this after having a Treo for a week and destroying the thing, even though it was in my pocket. I have no place in my life for a delicate cell phone. :D

I'm all for protecting the environment, but sometimes it gets out of hand. Greenpeace should be there, but it is evident that Apple is already working on being more environmentally friendly. Greenpeace should have been kicked out for violating their contract.

being the CCW permit holder that I am... I sure hope this guys did more than break some glass; security guard is going to feel a lot of pain for this one... doesnt matter if that guy was running with the whole damn store being pulled behind him, can't shoot at all for this one.
