Not happening. Never in a million years. (Trying to reverse-jinx it.) :D

I've got a Nextel plan that I hate and a phone I can't stand (Motorola i830), so if this phone is reasonably priced and works on the Verizon network, it's mine for sure. :)

a believable rumor, but it'll be for only some lines of mac!!

Apple will likely introduce a semi portable touch screen mac, that uses an arm chip under the hood for power savings. Since all the touch based software will need to be recompiled with a rethought UI, it's no big deal to ask developers of the Mac App Store to jump on with retargeted software that's not too different from the iPad launch.

If they add the "album only" feature to *All* Radiohead's songs, more bands will follow. Mostly for marketing reasons. There are lots of those crappy "Radiohead wannabes - ohhhhhh our songs should not be outside their album"

    Now, I can't wait for tomorrow's event!

I think Radiohead is a good beat for iTunes when their new album is out. They've just signed a new deal.

But it's perfectly acceptable to round 1.67 down too, it's half way between 1.5 and 2. Also depends on the price of a Sidcrome socket set.

I'll believe this 2x battery life bollocks when I see the results from the labs, not some chintzy marketing ploy by Intel. It's not a "chintzy marketing ploy by Intel". It's a scientific test conducted by two Intel Marketing engineers which I always believe because Intel employees are honest people with families and friends who love them. :)

Living in Australia, we don't have many technological advantages over the US, but the telecommunications strategy is one.

We, in general, do not have locked phones over here, nor crippled ones like your companies currently provide but they are still subsidised by the telecoms.

I currently have an 02 XDA II Mini, and if Apple did release a phone with even basic PDA features, wi-fi and bluetooth I would dump this Microsoft POS immediately.

The hard thing to get right about a PDA with phone, is that it is a PDA with a phone component added in. It doesn't work brilliantly.

I have no doubt that Apple would do a much better job integrating all the different components together for a seamless experience, even with V.1 of the product.

Going further on infancy stage of cloud as far as main stream consumers are concerned -- Only way they can drive people to it right now would be if it was all free.

Nobody in right mind would pay money to store their own files somewhere else which they already have on their computer.

Cloud storage can work for things that people do not own: software that they rent, movies and such.

Storing music on cloud is just simply stupid idea as it doesn't take up lot of space on your device and music is something you want to listen over and over again if it's your favorite(do you really want to having to connect to internet to get your fav music?)

This can be done quite cheaply, if Apple doesn't use off the shelf PC components - which is why current tablet PCs are so expensive. An Intel ULV processor is not cheap.

Shame that Apple moved away from the PowerPC really, when it comes to applications such as this. They could use a $20 PPC 750CL processor (16mm^2 die size, compare to the ~150mm^2 PC processors) at up to 1GHz (~2W power consumption at 700MHz), with a 30GB 1.8" hard drive (same as iPod), 512MB memory ... that'd be cheap (the display would probably be the most expensive part).

However if this is aimed at Q12008 then Intel will have some processors on 45nm, which will reduce size and power consumption. Also the chipsets are cheap and good.

I don't understand why PC tablets cost so much when they use components that you see in cheap laptops. Maybe there's a hefty OS + software cost, which Apple would not have as its inhouse. So there is a good chance for Apple to be competitively priced. The cost is the major issue with tablets - $500 - good. $1000 - can deal with probably. $2000 - haha.

    My guess:

They offer it on the Mac App Store, and on a USB stick (for about $10 more).

I don't really see how the Mac App Store idea would work, though, since the drive needs to be (well, should be) formatted prior to installation.

I'd opt for the physical OS.

umm....that magazine add looks rather real to me. WTF?

on another note, Vodafones 3G network here in NZ has video calls as standard on every phone they sell for the network. Its not revolutionary, they have had it since December last year. It doesnt cost any more than a regular mobile to mobile call. oh, and the person calling is the only one who pays (the fact that americans pay to answer a call is insane).

They also have an itunes sized music library that you can browse and download to your phone ( its 3.50NZD per track, which is about $2 USD). Its quite popular seeing as Apple has chosen not to have an Itunes store in New Zealand. They have sold hundreds of thousands of ipods, but there is nowhere to download songs legally. stupid huh? :(

We pay full retail for most phones, but we aren't locked into any sort of contract. And to the person who said txting should be banned from apples phone: why call someone for ten times the price of a SMS text when you dont need too?

:mad::mad: I am seriously starting to get pissed.

9 Things the Rich Don't Want You To Know About Taxes (http://www.wweek.com/portland/print-article-17350-print.html)

    It's a long article so here are some excerpts;

WTF does someone even do with 9 billion dollars?

Don't you remember, it trickles down? Key points from your article.

    1. Poor Americans do pay taxes.

    2. The wealthiest Americans dont carry the burden.

Contrary to what Rand Paul says. The income tax is less than half of federal taxes and only one-fifth of taxes at all levels of government.

    3. In fact, the wealthy are paying less taxes.

    4. Many of the very richest pay no current income taxes at all.

    5. And (surprise!) since Reagan, only the wealthy have gained significant income.

    6. When it comes to corporations, the story is much the sameless taxes.

    7. Some corporate tax breaks destroy jobs.

Due to loopholes and tax havens like the Cayman Islands. Average incomes fell during Bush years.

    8. Republicans like taxes too.

President Reagan signed into law 11 tax increases, targeted at people down the income ladder. George W. Bush signed a tax increase, too, in despite his written ironclad pledge never to raise taxes on anyone.

    9. Other countries do it better.

.....but with a contract the phone is going to be extremely expensive.
Or it's just an Ipod with phone functionality (whatever the looks), and will cost 399.00. No contract, no lock in. Apple buyers already spend that money on hardware, and you can probably a pretty noce phone for that amount. So, why do you think it will be locked in with a carrier for x years? there is no need for, as they are not going after the commodity (100.00 and less) market on this. If they did, would be a big mistake.

I remember in elementary school, learning about the metric system since we were all going to switch to it. That never happened. I wonder why....

    A fair question.

Ask NASA about the 'problem' with the Mars orbiter (http://articles.cnn.com/1999-09-30/tech/9909_30_mars.metric.02_1_climate-orbiter-spacecraft-team-metric-system?_s=PM:TECH). :D

If it doesn't have Lights Out Management, it isn't a server. Our datacenter doesn't even allow servers without LOM into the building, and I agree with that policy. There's more to making a server than turning it sideways and bolting it to a rack.

Intel is spending $9 billion to upgrade its fabs to 22nm. Building all of them from scratch would be much more expensive. ARM's current market cap is $7.5 billion.

are we still debating over this?

Yes, because the uninitiated that claim this is ambiguous keep popping up. Oh wait...

if we stay to basic math, it depends on how you read the / sign

If you read it as anything other than a division, you need to go back to school.

it is poorly written (or more likely purposely ambiguously written)

Only for those with a lack of understanding of basic math. Again, the problem is not the equation per say, it's the people that don't understand mathematics.

I see the short sighted Apple pom-pom shakers are once again giddy with excitement. The juvenile remarks are embarrassing.

For some strange reason you think monopolies are good for consumers.

    ^This.

Unfortunately, most posters here think Apple always acts in the best interests of its customers. Kind of cute, actually.

    +1

Seems like this timeline will screw up upgrades for iPhone 6 for people who buy iPhone 5. Unless, of course, they move all iPhone releases to the fall.

An idea I've been suggesting for some time. A fall release cycle makes more sense in that it plays to the big Christmas quarter.

4.0 has been the only major iOS release that has contained numerous additional features with every 4.x point release (4.1 added Game Center/HDR/Ping/TV Rentals, 4.2 added AirPlay/AirPrint/iPad support, 4.3 added AirPlay for apps/Mobile Hot Spot/Photobooth for iPad, etc). Therefore, I can see it having a longer lifecycle that 2.0 and 3.0.

Maybe we'll get 4.4 or 4.5 in June and 5.0 in September?

I don't mind this as much as the requirement to be logged into your Apple account in order to use free app's from the App Store. Safe to say that's obnoxious.

    Image (http://www.macrumors.com/2011/04/23/apple-including-ultra-high-resolution-artwork-in-lion-for-possible-retina-displays/)

    Image (http://images.macrumors.com/article/2011/04/23/171415-background.jpg)

A finding earlier this month (http://osxdaily.com/2011/04/02/new-mt-fuji-wallpaper-in-mac-os-x-lion-developer-preview-2/) by OSXDaily has generated some speculation about Apple's plans for "Retina" display Macs. The Mac OS X Lion Developer Preview 2 released in late March (http://www.macrumors.com/2011/03/30/apple-releases-mac-os-x-lion-developer-preview-2/) included an ultra-high resolution version of the background desktop image at a resolution of 3200x2000. A few observers noted (http://punchingin.com/chasing-the-6-4-megapixel-unicorn/) that this is higher than any Apple display has ever supported, generating speculation (http://theelaborated.net/blog/2011/4/13/consider-the-retina-display.html) that Apple is preparing for "Retina" display Macs in the near future.

We had previously reported (http://www.macrumors.com/2011/02/24/mac-os-x-lion-building-in-support-for-super-high-resolution-retina-monitors/) that Mac OS X Lion has made some under-the-hood changes opening the door to such super-high resolution displays. Now, MacMagazine.com.br has found (http://macmagazine.com.br/2011/04/23/macs-com-telas-retina-nao-sao-duvida-quando-eles-chegarao-sim-ainda-e-uma-incognita/) that Apple is already starting to include other super high resolution artwork in Lion. They found several icons stored as 1024x1024 sizes, up from a previous maximum of 512x512.

    Image (http://images.macrumors.com/article/2011/04/23/171147-23-lion_appstore.png)

    Click for full-size

Of course, this support for super high resolution displays is only the first step, but suggests Apple is planning ahead when the hardware becomes available.

Article Link: Apple Including Ultra High Resolution Artwork in Lion for Possible Retina Displays? (http://www.macrumors.com/2011/04/23/apple-including-ultra-high-resolution-artwork-in-lion-for-possible-retina-displays/)

Oh please. Give me a break! Do you nitwits HONESTLY think there will be retina display Macs in the near future? It's total BS. If they did, the cost of said Macs would be prohibitive to the general public. Why do you think there aren't retina display iPads? IT'S TOO DAMN EXPENSIVE! C'mon guys...you're beginning to sound like CNET

Some older iMacs with Core 2 Duo were not supported in the first Lion Beta. Has this been changed or updated with this release?
