I agree that $14.99 is way too high for a downloadable movie.
Agreed. When considering the fact that you presumably would not get the DVD extras, the quality would not be as good (based on compression/encoding) and you'd be watching it on a small screen, that does seem rather steep. It would be one thing if it was a high quality HD version or something, which you could also view on a normal TV as well, but that wouldn't be feasible either due to the resulting file sizes and longer download times required.
It will be interesting indeed to see how Apple handles this service...

Another nickel in the bank.

You do realize that this image could end up biting Apple in the butt? In 3 years time the iPad will be where the iPhone is now: Loosing some (not all) of its marketshare to the knockoffs.
Unless Apple has a new iToy (I.e not an MP3 player, phone or tablet) ready for say 3-4 years from now, they wont get any bigger than they now are.

it is very easy to aim the gun for the chest and hit the head. For most people, that's a less than 5% change in gun angle, which for most pistols is less than 1/2" up. That is, he was aiming for the chest, and let the tip of his barrel rise less than 1/2" higher than it should go.
Which is completely reasonable if the rise was due to recoil and he didn't lower the barrel before pulling the trigger again. Another reason why gangbangers that hold the gun sideways are idiots--recoil is gonna take you off center-line and you'll start shooting arms instead of heads. :D

Out in my neck of the woods we have a pretty well strapped police dept and they DO respond to 911 calls about drunk drivers. In fact, in Cali there's signs all over the place telling you to call 911 to report them. lol :)
Glad I don't live where you do :P
Ok, it's obvious you're very confident behind the handling abilities of your car, so hear me out:
* What kind of car is it
* When was the last time you checked your brakes
* How old are your tires, what kind are they, and when was the last time you checked the tire pressure - what was it?
* When was the last time you inspected your tire treads and suspension
I hope you can answer some of these questions.
Admittedly, if you don't do any of the above your car might be unsafe at any speed.
*BMW M5 (my mother's weekend car)
*Brakes were replaced less than a week ago during the car's 100,000 mile service
*Michelin Pilot SuperSport Tires, they are less than a year old, the pressure is 44psi front 48psi rear (per BMW's recommendation), tire pressure was checked less than 48 hours ago when the car last had gas put in it
*Tire treads are inspected every time gas is put in the car, suspension was clean according to our BMW dealership
EDIT: @mrsir2009 - Michigan driving laws specifically state that if you rear end someone, no matter what, you are at fault. You must always keep enough distance between you and the car in front of you to avoid hitting it if they slam on their breaks. My mother has been there and done that. She cut a woman off, breakchecked her, and the woman hit her, the woman was at fault and my Mom even sued her for the cost of the deductible and won, all while admitting that she cut the woman off and breakchecked her.

Apple still doesn't have upload to a cloud or wireless syncing, and Windows Phone does. 25 GB free sky drive, as well as a beautiful hub where you choose what to access at a glance. In iOS, you have to flick and flick, especially if you have many apps. The wireless syncing is slick. Facebook integration flawless. WP7 also now has cut, copy, and paste and HTML5 before the end of the year. I'm sorry, but hooking up with the largest mobile phone manufacture is a no brainer.

Seriously, all... this is much better than the alternative. I.e. Apple having to completely re-engineer or stop selling the iPod. $100 million is chump change. Stock market is highly reactionary and irrational. It should all smooth out in the next couple days.
Yes, the consumer could care less. Apple reached the top of this mountain first. They got the loot first right? Or not, it just reminds me of something.:)

I'm missing why you would waste money on FW or TB for backups. Why do you need top performance for simply backups. Save yourself some money and get a cheap USB drive for backups. I just bought a 3TB USB driver at Best Buy for $170 CDN - it's just as safe as a firewire drive, and I don't need the speed - it's not like I'm capturing video or running software off of it.
a) When you need to restore any significant amount of data (let alone a complete disk), USB can get old pretty fast.
b) Any backup of a life system suffers from not being perfectly consistent (as the backed-up system changes during the backup), the faster the backup, the smaller the inconsistencies.
c) If you keep your clones offline, you'll always have to wait and watch when updating them before you can take them offline again (in particular if you always do two backups back-to-back to minimise inconsistencies)
Of course, if you value cheap over best, go for USB.

No matte antiglare screens on the new iMacs. If you need matte screens, there's something you can do - add your voice to 1,300+ petitions at http://macmatte.wordpress.com Unlike personal emails to Apple - which Apple just ignore, asserting everyone loves glossy screens - make it count by adding to the online petition where your voice will remain visible on the net until Apple listens. Remember, adding your comment to transient news articles on the net is fine, but those articles go out of date in a few weeks, and also there is no long-term accumulation and consolidation of numbers, like there is at a petition site.
I've seen you post this same post on every Mac site I've visited today. Here's the problem - those of us who read Mac sites are a tiny minority. Those of us who read the comments on Mac sites are an even tinier minority. We don't represent the vast majority of iMac customers. This petition, while I agree with your preference as I type this on a matte screen MBP, is not going to do anything. Apple won't read it, and even if they do, will not follow it. But good luck.

"Awesome?"
*jumps into Windows 7 in Parallels to check it out again*
"Awesome???"
Awesome to those used to sub-par products...
The perfect analogy would be you and your lazy cousin: you pass school every year with excellent grades and get normal Christmas presents since this is your expected performance.
But when your lazy/stupid cousin, who has failed school two or three years in a row, passes with reasonable grades, he gets a Ferrari...get it?

:( And I thought I was hot stuff with my 2GHz Core Duo iMac... Less than a month old!
Oh well, that's the way it always goes...Someone should have paid attention to the Buyer's Guide.
http://buyersguide.macrumors.com/
I've had the money for an iMac for over a month now. I haven't bought it though.
What's the probability of being able to drop one of the newer, more powerful chips into my iMac sometime in the future? I mean, I've got 2GB RAM and a 500GB HDD, and a 256MB video card... A newer processor down the line should work well, right? The CPU is possible but you probably wouldn't want to it yourself. The hard drive is easier. The video card would require an entire logic board replacement.

How about this:
When you are born, you are given, in effect a serial number. which is yours as a human being for life.
When you buy any digital media, this is linked to our number for life.
This means for as long as you live, and whatever device you buy, you can access this media always.
So I buy and iPad and I pay for the "RIGHTS" to watch/own a movie.
I have paid my money and now that movie is mine to watch any time in the future on whatever device I buy in the future.
They do this now. Its called your Apple ID :p

I'm actually surprised this doesn't happen more often. Applestores must be filled with cash. I would think one would be a bit easier to rob than a bank.
Cash? Who uses that anymore?
Even your receipt is automatically emailed to you.

There is a significantly less amount of wiggle room for them, they will now have to answer to shareholders, about why they are taking so long to roll out a product that all the other PC manufacturers are shipping.
But since the other companies (Dell, HP, etc.) aren't actually shipping their C2D laptops and systems for at least another two weeks, I don't think Apple is sweating it, and I'm betting their shareholders aren't worried either.
Apple is probably simply waiting until their shipments from overseas that are due to hit on the 5th, are actually in stores and online ready to purchase before they make the announcement. If they do announce on the 5th or 6th, they'll pobably be available to order and ship that day. In that sense, they would actually be shipping before any of the other manufacturers. If they wait until the following week, or the week after, they'll still be shipping at or about the same time as the other companies.
Apple won't be behind on shipments just because they're behind on announcements. They probably just want to have their systems available before they announce them.

Humans are pre-programmed to take such an action hard. Some don't, usually as a result of contemplation and training before such an incident. It is, however, natural to react that way. Best for all to recognize different people may take such a grave matter very differently, and that's ok.
Personally, if humans were pre-programmed to take killing another human so hard, I think we'd see a lot less senseless murder in the world.

Very hard to say, but 3G is not taking to the rest of the world very well, especially the US as they can't get 2/2.5G to work properly yet. This is about the only occasion when the UK really is doing well.
Fair point, but I'd like to think that Apple will be looking to the future; imagine being able to buy music via your phone - couldn't do that with 2G.
Besides, the US is only a small part of the global market... ;)

I'm looking at getting a new iMac fingers crossed for the following:
- Bluray (I know... but it would be nice)
- Thunderbolt
- USB3
- AMD Radeon HD 67XX-68XX with up to 2GB RAM (it wont happen though :()
- Space for 2 HDD (I know, again it would be nice for two internal drives)
- i5 and i7.. Hopefully no i3 in the line up.
- Up to 24GB...
Again if I can't get an iMac with beefier video card it looks like another Alienware with Linux...

I hope somehow apple creates forum software with spotlight search so as soon as I start typing something it searches through 500 pages of posts and on the right side of the screen will show similar comments, who posted it, and on what pages similar comments are/where posted.

The Napa chipset used with Yonah only supported 32 address lines.
Napa is the hardware-platform, composed of Yonah, Intel Mobile 945-chipset and Intel Pro Wireless. AKA third generation Centrino. And since the CPU used in that platform is 32bits, the platfom can be called a 32bit platfom. Note: this has nothing to do with the bitness of the logic-board. Napa64 (or rather: Santa Rosa) is Fourth generation Centrino that uses Merom and new chipset.

Whatever. Someone will be more than happy to come along and fill the gap, if they haven't already.
Let's see, that's, what, two developers who've decided to pack it in. That's not a "wave of discontent" or whatever it's supposedly being touted as. Esp since more developers have no doubt joined in the same period than have walked. This is the nature of this kind of thing. Not happy? Fine. Leave. Nobody's making you stay. It was your choice to get involved in the first place. Take your ball and go home.

Part of the reason Apple has done so remarkably well for years now? Sure. However it is also mostly the reason Apple still only had 5% of that market.
